“They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything–all she had to live on.”
God’s love flows like a mighty river. It pours over us, sweeping us up in its strong currents. It takes us to amazing places and fills us with incredible joy and delight. We must not stop the flow with our fear, hate, worry, intolerance, or greed.
Giving is one of the ways in which we keep God’s love flowing. Whether we give our time, our attention, or we give financially, we step into that river of Divine love and we flow along in its wild joy. Jesus once said that we must give our life to gain it. It is this giving of ourselves that takes us out of our ego and puts us directly in the flow of God’s love, (It is our ego which “edges God out” and keeps us from God.)
I often think of the saying by Rumi: “Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” Once we tear down all of the barriers we’ve created to love, we find ourselves living in abundance, right where God wants us to be living. Even giving when we have seemingly little to give blesses us with more coming back to us. For it is the letting go of the fear of lack that opens in us a space for abundance to fill!
