“Sparrow!” God called to me as I filled the bird feeder on my porch. The morning light was dim, last night’s dark had not yet given up its grasp.
“Here I am!” I answered.
“I want you to take this opportunity,” God said.
“What opportunity?” I asked.
“This one,” He said and grinned, a twinkle in His eyes.
“Is this one of your teachable moments?”
“Could be,” He said, His grin growing bigger.
“Ok, I’ll bite. What’s the lesson?”
“People think that opportunities only come around every so often, when in fact, they are with you every moment, of every day.” He explained. “Every moment is an opportunity to choose to better yourself.”
I put the bag of seeds away and went into the house. The birds who had waited so patiently in the tress swooped in for their breakfast. “You mean that opportunity doesn’t need special circumstances? It is woven into our everyday lives?”
“Exactly! Every moment makes it possible for you to do something. So choose something good. Choose love over fear.”
“I’ll take this opportunity to say thank you for this morning, for these hungry birds, and for your love,” I answered. “How’s that?”
“It’s an excellent start,” He said and gave me a hug.
“Great. Now I’ll choose coffee!” I said and hugged Him back.
