“When my life was fainting away, I remembered the Lord, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple.”
Near drowning, Jonah’s head and feet were tangled in seaweed. As if that weren’t bad enough, a whale came along and swallowed him whole! Jonah prayed as he sat deep inside of that whale’s belly. God heard his prayer. Prayer works no matter what our circumstances or surroundings. We don’t have to wait until bedtime to pray, or when we go to church, or during our meditation time. We pray right where we are, even if we are in a tight spot like Jonah.
You may be sitting stuck in commuter traffic. That’s okay, Pray. You may be picking up the pieces of your favorite vase that your toddler broke, that’s okay, pray. You may be walking your dog, or cooking dinner; that’s okay. Pray. The time to pray isn’t when you have nothing else going on in your life. The time of pray is when you have so much going on in your life! God’s not insulted if you are busy but you want to chat with Him. He appreciates that you take a moment to pause and pray. He wants you to seek Him, all throughout the day. We are supposed to be in constant contact with God: “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (1 Thessalonians 5:16).
Pray right now, wherever you are. Tell God what’s on your mind and what’s in your heart. He will hear you. Nothing can keep God from hearing your prayer. Not even an entire whale, apparently!
